The world of Zimbabwean football has been rocked by a shocking incident involving Agama FC, a Division One side, where a heated dispute between the club patron and head coach has resulted in serious injury. Patson Muzawazi, the club’s head coach, alleges that he was brutally assaulted by Malvern Moyo, the club patron, following a disappointing loss to Karoi United. Muzawazi claims he suffered a broken hand in the attack.

The incident, which allegedly occurred on July 8th, has sent shockwaves through the local football community, prompting investigations and raising concerns about the conduct of club officials.

Muzawazi, in a formal complaint lodged with Agama FC, paints a disturbing picture of the events that transpired. “I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Malvern Moyo, the Club Patron of Agama Football Club, concerning an incident of severe ill treatment and physical assault I endured on July 8, 2024,” he wrote.

He recounts being summoned to Moyo’s mining premises under the pretence of a financial discussion, only to be met with a torrent of verbal abuse. “Moyo launched into a tirade of verbal abuse, unjustly accusing me of the team’s recent defeat against Karoi United,” Muzawazi wrote. “Despite my attempts to provide a factual explanation of the circumstances surrounding our defeat, Moyo became increasingly agitated and physically aggressive towards me.”

The situation escalated rapidly, culminating in a physical assault. “In a blatant display of aggression, Moyo physically attacked me, during which he wielded a brick that struck my arm, causing physical injury and considerable pain,” Muzawazi stated.

He further alleges that despite attempts by some of Moyo’s workers to intervene, another worker joined in the attack. “This incident has not only caused me physical harm but has also left me deeply humiliated and distressed by the unjustifiable conduct displayed by Moyo,” Muzawazi said. “Such behaviour is unacceptable and breaches both ethical standards and legal boundaries.”

Muzawazi has called for swift action from the club and is considering legal action. “I am formally requesting that the Agama Football Club address this matter promptly and take appropriate action,” he wrote. “Furthermore, I am considering pursuing legal recourse in this matter and would appreciate swift intervention from the club to prevent such incidents from recurring.”

Moyo, however, vehemently denies the allegations. “I am not aware of where the claims are coming from,” he said. “We are a professional team and we have been doing well. We have lost only three games, so there is no need for us to panic to the extent of bashing the coach.”

The stark contrast between the two accounts leaves the truth shrouded in uncertainty. While Muzawazi’s detailed complaint paints a picture of a brutal attack, Moyo’s denial raises questions about the true nature of the incident.
