Harare – Zanu-PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, has launched a scathing attack on war veteran Blessed ‘Bombshell’ Runesu Geza, labelling him a dishonest and greedy individual with a history of deceit and self-enrichment. The explosive allegations come in the wake of Geza’s recent prominence as a vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, demanding his resignation over alleged corruption and economic mismanagement.
Geza, who spearheaded the March 31 protest that later evolved into a mass stay-away, has become a prominent voice of dissent against the current administration. However, Machacha’s revelations seek to undermine Geza’s credibility by exposing what he claims are the war veteran’s questionable past actions.
In a video circulating on social media, Machacha, addressing Zanu-PF members at an undisclosed location, asserts his familial connection to Geza, stating that he is Geza’s nephew. This relationship, Machacha argues, gives him the authority to speak definitively about Geza’s character, having known him for many years.
“I acknowledge that Geza is my uncle. You heard him rant that I am his nephew, yes, it’s true. I am not speaking of a person that I am not familiar with. We were together at Chimoio during the war,” Machacha stated.
However, Machacha’s account of their time together at Chimoio paints a vastly different picture of Geza. He alleges that Geza never spent a single day in the camp, instead dedicating his time to stealing from the logistics warehouse and reselling the stolen goods to villagers in nearby settlements.
“There was a big hall which served as a logistics warehouse where clothes for guerilla fighters were stored. Bombshell would go there and steal jeans and shirts, which he would go and sell in the villages or exchange for beer or cigarettes,” Machacha claimed. “He literally never spent a single day in camp. Each morning, he would go around villages and get chicken, beer cigarettes and Saraveji.”
Machacha further alleges that despite facing corporal punishment, including flogging, for his actions, Geza remained unrepentant.
The Zanu-PF commissar went on to detail an incident during Geza’s recruitment for training in Romania. According to Machacha, Geza misrepresented himself to Romanian authorities, claiming to be the son of nationalist leader Robert Mugabe in order to receive VIP treatment.
“He would be chauffeured in limousines around Romania,” Machacha stated. The truth, he clarified, was that Geza’s elder brother was married to Mugabe’s sister.
Following Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, Machacha claims that Geza was enlisted into the army, where he would allegedly beg for promotions based on favouritism rather than merit.
Machacha further accused Geza of exploiting the Mozambican military operation by intoxicating FRELIMO soldiers and stealing engines from their Scania trucks, which he then smuggled into Zimbabwe.
The accusations against Geza extend beyond his time in the liberation struggle and early years of independence. Machacha alleges that Geza participated in the looting of white commercial farms during the land reform programme, seizing cattle and grabbing abattoirs to slaughter and sell the stolen livestock.
During the Chiadzwa diamond rush, Geza was appointed as a Mbada Diamonds security officer, a position Machacha claims he used to loot the precious minerals.
According to Machacha, Geza’s current animosity towards President Mnangagwa stems from his disqualification from contesting the 2018 elections for the Sanyati constituency. Machacha claims that Geza was barred from running due to a pending rape case involving a local schoolgirl.
The allegations made by Machacha are a serious indictment of Geza’s character and past actions. They raise questions about his credibility as a critic of the current government and cast a shadow over his motives for demanding President Mnangagwa’s resignation.
