Seke – A modern house in Sabhuku Chinamano’s area, near the bustling new business district also known as kuBooster, has become the centre of a chilling mystery. Residents of a homestead in Dema, Chief Seke’s territory, are living in fear, claiming their house was built directly on top of an ancient graveyard, and the restless spirits of the deceased (zvipoko) are making their presence known.

The caretaker of the property, Mrs. Sofia Gukuta Jakarasi (54), has been left in a state of perpetual unease, claiming that the voices of the dead haunt the house, demanding that their neglected graves be tended to.

“I have seen hardship because of the spirits that speak in the house I live in, saying the deceased want to be taken care of since the house I live in was built on top of a graveyard. Many things are happening, including football being played on the roof,” Mrs. Jakarasi explained, her voice tinged with exhaustion and fear, during a telephone interview.

According to Mrs. Jakarasi, the disembodied voices are a constant presence, disrupting her sleep and filling her days with dread. She claims to be awakened in the dead of night by the spectral voices, who guide her to the locations of seven forgotten graves, only to vanish without a trace when she fully awakens.

Mr. Karikoga Dhiriza (73), Chief Seke’s headman for the area, confirmed the unsettling events. “This is a shocking matter here in Dema, Seke; we are amazed by it. This house is uninhabitable; the caretaker came to me talking about this issue of voices coming from the house they live in, saying they were buried here and want their graves tended to. They say she is awakened at night by voices telling her about places with seven graves, but when she wakes up, the people speaking to her are gone. People are heard playing football on the roof, as well as the sound of flutes and pipes, but they are not seen,” he stated, highlighting the community’s bewilderment.

Adding to the eerie atmosphere, locals report strange occurrences around the property. Some claim to hear the sounds of football being played on the roof of the house, but when they venture outside to investigate, they find no one there. Furthermore, a nearby stand, also believed to contain unmarked graves, is said to be the site of another terrifying incident.

According to local lore, young men digging a mine near the stand reportedly encountered walking skeletons of the deceased, who spoke to them, prompting the terrified miners to abandon their work and flee the area.

When the news crew visited the homestead this past Friday, Mrs. Jakarasi was absent, having sought solace and spiritual guidance at a local prayer meeting in response to the ongoing disturbances. The owners of the property, who reportedly reside far away, could not be reached for comment. Their identities remain undisclosed.
