HarareLocal businessman and rapper Mudiwa Hood has offered a helping hand to R&B singer Trevor Dongo after a fire ravaged his apartment in Harare. The incident, which has been shrouded in conflicting reports and emotional outpourings, has left Dongo grappling with significant losses and sparked concern among his fans and peers.

Trevor Dongo, known by many as the “Ladies Man” for his smooth vocals and appealing looks, found himself embroiled in a dramatic situation on Friday night. Initial reports suggested that a heated argument between two of Dongo’s lovers at his rented flat in the Avenues area of Harare led to the devastating fire.

According to these earlier reports, one of the women, identified as Tanaka, was forced to flee the scene while stark naked as the situation escalated. It is alleged that the other lover, in a fit of jealous rage, set Dongo’s bed on fire, causing the flames to quickly spread throughout the flat.

Tenants at the block of flats were awoken by the commotion and the smell of smoke, and quickly sprang into action. Residents grabbed buckets of water and bravely battled the blaze while waiting for the fire brigade to arrive. In a desperate attempt to rescue the woman who started the fire, who had become trapped on the first floor balcony, they created a makeshift mattress on the ground below. She was then able to jump from the balcony, sustaining injuries upon landing.

Dongo himself, along with Tanaka, sustained minor burns during the incident and were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical attention.

However, Dongo has since dismissed these claims, taking to Facebook in a now-deleted post to denounce the circulating stories as false.

“The level of toxicity that drives some bloggers and journalists these days is insane. I’m slowly starting to accept reality that’s why I had to gather up a bit of strength to type this message. Fabricated stories are circulating, different versions for the sake of getting likes and tarnish my image but avo vane information yakakwana are the closest kwandiri, zvimwe zvese wonai nekunyeperwa for the sake of monetization ye social media,” Dongo stated.

In his emotional posts, he shared that the fire broke out while he was not at home. Upon returning, he suffered burns while trying to salvage his possessions. He admitted to losing valuables, including furniture, clothing, shoes, studio equipment, company documents, and his apartment.

“I lost things that took me years to build, furniture, clothes, shoes, studio equipment, company documents, flat etc and I suffered serious burns mushure mekunge ndadzoka and tried to save and retrieve zvandaikwanisa asi zvakaramba. lam in serious pain I’ve been a good father and friend. My life is ruined but I would like to thank friends and relatives that are genuine. Zim Musicians, Jimmy Xtra Large, Kelvin Motsi, Mabvuramiti, my doctor, my apostle, my lawyer etc,” he added.

The fire caused extensive damage to the apartment, with reports indicating that virtually all the property in the bedroom, lounge, toilets, and kitchen was destroyed.

Adding to the concerns, Dongo also shared a deeply concerning update, suggesting that he was contemplating taking his own life. He urged that his unreleased music be shared with the world.

“Macdonald MacDee Chidavaenzi I’ve been nothing but a good friend and brother to you since 2006 handizive pandakakutadzira hangu I’m loosing hope and I don’t think there is still a reason for me to live. All the new music that we’ve recorded ichangosara ichiburitswa kuti muwane chekundirangarira nacho. This post, which was shared across social media, prompted widespread concern among fans and fellow musicians.

Mudiwa Hood was among the first to respond, expressing his willingness to help Dongo get back on his feet.

“I can’t reach Trevor Dongo Please tell him we are willing (2 more people)to help him get back on his feet NOW!A 1 bed apartment with paid furniture he will choose. Can contact me or Mahwindo,” Mudiwa Hood posted.

The incident has left Dongo facing not only potential legal repercussions but also the daunting task of rebuilding his life after the fire. Efforts to reach Dongo for his side of the story have so far been unsuccessful.
