Chinhoyi – A 30-tonne truck laden with Chibuku opaque beer was involved in an accident today at the 10-kilometre peg along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Highway, resulting in a chaotic scene as locals stampeded to loot the spilled crates of beer.

By 1 pm, the area near Swanaepol Farm had descended into disarray as motorists and passersby alike joined in the free-for-all, grabbing crates of the popular brew strewn across the tarmac.

While the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, there were no fatalities reported. The driver and crew sustained only minor injuries.

Speaking to the state broadcaster, the driver recounted the incident: “I was coming from Harare and heading to Chinhoyi. The vehicle’s steering suddenly stopped functioning and swerved towards the passenger side. I tried to steer it back to the right, back onto the road, but the vehicle veered to the far right before overturning.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a bus travelling from Mutare was involved in a collision with a pick-up truck just after the Odzi Bridge. The accident occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.

According to reports, the bus driver failed to return to his lane after noticing an oncoming truck. The bus collided with the corner of the truck, causing the bus to overturn onto its side. While there were no fatalities, numerous passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Mutare’s Victoria Chitepo Hospital for treatment.
