Harare – A Harare-based prophet, Edson Chirimani, has sought legal recourse against a local man, Nigel Furaijo, who is accusing him of impregnating his wife. The case was brought before the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday, where Chirimani sought a peace order against Furaijo, alleging harassment and threats.

Chirimani told the court that Furaijo has been persistently harassing him through messages and has even threatened to disrupt his church services. The prophet detailed the nature of the alleged harassment, stating, “He sent me WhatsApp messages with pictures of his wife, asking if I knew her.”

He further explained that the messages continued, with Furaijo sending the same pictures a second time. “The second time, he sent the same pictures, and I explained that she had only come to me for prophetic services,” Chirimani said.

The situation escalated, according to Chirimani, when Furaijo accused him of being responsible for his wife’s pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage. Furaijo allegedly demanded that the prophet pay for damages related to the alleged pregnancy.

Chirimani claimed that Furaijo threatened to publicly humiliate him if he refused to comply with the demands. “He said if I refused, he would come to my house and publicly embarrass me in front of my congregation,” Chirimani told the court.

In response to these allegations, Nigel Furaijo insisted that the prophet is indeed responsible for the pregnancy in question. However, he denied harassing Chirimani, claiming that his intention was simply to discuss the matter with him privately.

Furaijo presented a different account of the situation, stating, “I spoke to my wife, and she admitted that the baby was his.” He further claimed that Chirimani had communicated with his wife’s relatives about the pregnancy. “He has also communicated with her relatives about the pregnancy. But when I confronted him at his house, he denied knowing her in that way,” Furaijo said.

Following the testimonies from both parties, presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ruled in favour of Chirimani, granting the peace order. The ruling stipulates that Furaijo must refrain from insulting or threatening Chirimani.
