MWENEZI – A 47-year-old man from Mwenezi has been apprehended by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) following the brutal assault and subsequent death of a lobola intermediary. The incident, which occurred on 11 February in Madzvaruse Village, under Chief Mazhetese’s jurisdiction, stemmed from a heated disagreement over the proposed bride price.

The deceased, identified as Alex Sibanda (35), was reportedly acting as munyai (intermediary) in lobola negotiations for an unnamed individual seeking to marry the suspect’s daughter, who had already eloped. Sibanda presented an initial offer of US$30 as the bride price, a sum that was deemed deeply insulting by the bride’s family.

According to police reports, this sparked a violent confrontation. Farisai Zhou, the arrested suspect, along with Simbarashe Zhou, Inzwaishe Majaya, and Isaac Majaya, allegedly took turns repeatedly assaulting Sibanda with a catapult and logs, inflicting severe injuries all over his body.

Tragically, Alex Sibanda succumbed to his injuries as a result of the brutal attack.

The ZRP confirmed the arrest of Farisai Zhou (47) in connection with the murder. However, Simbarashe Zhou, Inzwaishe Majaya, and Isaac Majaya remain at large and are currently being sought by authorities.
