A Bindura man is in police custody after allegedly murdering his wife in a fit of jealous rage, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, has confirmed.

The shocking incident occurred on February 12, 2025, at a house in Woodbrooke, Chiwaridzo, Bindura, plunging the community into mourning.

Justice Pondani, 34, stands accused of attacking his wife, Grace Chareka, also 34, after reportedly discovering her in a compromising position with another man, believed to be her lover.

Commissioner Nyathi detailed the gruesome events: “Police in Bindura arrested Justice Pondani (34) for a case of murder which occurred on February 12, 2025, at a house in Woodbooke, Chiwaridzo in Bindura. The suspect attacked his wife Grace Chareka (34) by pushing her head several times against the wall after allegedly finding her with a boyfriend. The victim died on the spot.”

The tragic death of Grace Chareka has sent ripples of grief and disbelief through the community, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and infidelity.

Man Jailed for Killing Pregnant Wife

Meanwhile, justice has been served in a 2016 murder case, with Tsoanelo Sibanda, 39, sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Bulawayo High Court for the murder of his wife, Letshani Ndlovu, 38, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death.

The court heard that the tragic incident occurred on May 18, 2016, in Ntalale, Guyu, Matabeleland South. The couple became embroiled in a heated argument fuelled by allegations of infidelity.

In a fit of uncontrollable rage, Sibanda pursued Letshani and struck her twice with a stone—once on the head and once on the left ear—leaving her unconscious and bleeding profusely. Letshani tragically succumbed to her injuries before she could reach a hospital.

Teenage Son Kills Father in Nyanga

In a separate incident, police in Nyanga are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Tazvionesa Chitehwe, 47, who was allegedly murdered by his Form Four student son on February 13, 2025, at Nyamugafata Village.

The young suspect reportedly struck his father on the head with an axe following a heated argument. The dispute arose after the son had spent two days away from home without informing his father of his whereabouts. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full sequence of events leading to this tragic patricide.
