Waddilove High School, a Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) institution in Marondera, Mashonaland East province, has once again cemented its position as a leading academic institution, achieving outstanding results in the recently released Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Advanced Level examinations.

The school’s exceptional performance is highlighted by a remarkable achievement: one student scored 25 points, ten students achieved 20 points each, thirty-one students secured 15 points each, and twenty students obtained 14 points each.

This exceptional performance is not an isolated incident; a total of 55 learners achieved 15 points or more, while an impressive 128 out of 144 learners scored 10 points or more. This demonstrates a consistent commitment to academic excellence, maintaining Waddilove High’s top ranking in the province.

The overall national pass rate for Advanced Level examinations, according to Zimsec, was 94.58%, with 31,443 out of 33,246 candidates achieving a Grade E or better in two or more subjects. Waddilove High’s performance significantly surpasses this national average, showcasing the dedication and hard work within the school.

Daniel Muzenda, the MCZ secretary for education, attributed the school’s success to the combined efforts of dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and the commitment of the learners themselves. He highlighted the collaborative spirit that underpins the school’s achievements:

“The school administration, teachers, parents and learners at the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe mission schools are upbeat about the 2024 Advanced Level results produced by the school. One hundred years after its establishment, the school (Waddilove High) is still growing and nurturing excellence, making it the school of yesterday, today and tomorrow,” Muzenda stated.

He further elaborated on the factors contributing to the school’s success, emphasising the rigorous academic environment and the dedication of the teaching staff:

“The 2024 results are symptomatic, speaking volume about sound supervision, keeping learners busy through rigorous study and a crop of teachers who are competitive and spurred by the zeal to set the bar high. The results also reflect the thrust of MCZ as clearly stated on pillar 5 of its mission titled Excelling Education Service with Article 1 saying quantitative and qualitative growth of schools. Quality education for the MCZ-run schools remains at the centre and circumference of its activities.”

Muzenda also praised the school’s vibrant library facilities, a crucial resource contributing to the students’ academic success. He extended this commendation to other MCZ schools, highlighting their collective achievements:

“Waddilove High School has thus lifted the flag of the church, and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education by continuing to churn out luminaries that are reliable stones in the building of Zimbabwe. It is not only Waddilove High School. We have Sandringham, which has close to 40 fifteeen pointers and Kwenda Mission which has 29 learners with 15 points.

“The custodians of results, the teachers, also need a standing ovation for working very hard and for being on the ball. Such results are only produced by classroom practitioners who are driven by nothing else except the enthusiasm for quality results.”

Waddilove High School’s exceptional performance stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of its students, teachers, and the wider school community. The school’s continued success reinforces its reputation as a leading educational institution in Mashonaland East province and a significant contributor to Zimbabwe’s academic landscape. The results are a source of pride for the MCZ, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and the nation as a whole.
