A tragic incident in Masvingo has left a community mourning after a husband murdered his wife before taking his own life. Police are investigating the case as a murder-suicide.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, confirmed the details: “Police in Basera are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder and suicide which occurred at Utete village, Chitsa, Gutu, Masvingo. On December 2, 2025, Raramai Dhewa (40) was found dead with multiple injuries all over the body in a kitchen hut. A blood-stained log was recovered at the scene.”

The victim’s husband, Fungai Chitsale (46), was later discovered dead in their home.

“The victim’s husband…was later found dead, hanging from a roof truss with a nylon rope in a two-bed roomed house,” Commissioner Nyathi added.

The circumstances surrounding the dispute that led to this tragic outcome are currently under investigation. The discovery of a blood-stained log at the scene suggests a brutal attack. The double tragedy has shaken the community, leaving family and friends grappling with the loss.

In a separate incident, police in Filabusi are pursuing six suspects accused of murdering a village bully. The suspects, identified as Zenzo Moyo (32), Ayanda Moyo (30), Nqobizita Moyo (34), Senly Moyo (29), Paul Ndlovu (36), and Donald Sibanda (30), are wanted in connection with the death of Talent Hlongwane (29). The murder occurred on December 3, 2025, at Village 16 B, Nkankezi.

The suspects allegedly attacked Hlongwane with spears, axes, and machetes, accusing him of bullying behaviour within the community. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of violence and vigilantism in some rural communities. The ZRP is appealing to the public for any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects.
