A wave of outrage has swept through Glen View following the arrest of a police constable accused of the rape of a six-year-old girl. Constable Pedzisai Chikuhuhu, 40, of ZRP Epworth, was apprehended on New Year’s Day after allegedly luring the child into a maize field and committing the horrific act.

The incident occurred at Darerechimurenga Housing Cooperative near Glen View 4. According to a resident who witnessed the aftermath, the young girl had been celebrating New Year’s Eve at her 76-year-old grandmother’s house.

The resident recounted the events of that morning, stating: “On December 31, 2024, the minor child went to celebrate New Year’s Eve at her grandmother’s house aged 76. On the 1st January 2025 at around 0700 hours, she was on her way back home, where she stays with her aunt when she met the perpetrator. He asked her to follow him to the maize-field where he promised to give her some goodies and she complied.”

The constable’s alleged actions took a sinister turn once they reached a secluded spot within the maize field. The resident continued: “When the two got to a secluded place, the officer started kissing and raped her. The child screamed for help resulting in the officer stopping the act. He then gave her some water berries (hute) fruits which he look from his pocket. He put on his trousers and instructed the minor child to go home and some residents rushed to the scene. He ran away upon seeing people and some men apprehended him and took him to police.”

The young girl’s screams alerted nearby residents, who immediately responded to the scene. Their intervention led to the arrest of Constable Chikuhuhu, who was subsequently handed over to Glen View Police Station and detained under CR 02/01/25. The swift action of the community underscores the collective outrage felt at this heinous crime.

The severity of the alleged crime has left the community reeling. The young victim was immediately taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for a thorough medical examination. The details of her condition have not been publicly released, but the incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice.
