A 13-year-old Grade 7 learner is dead following a hit-and-run accident in Chitungwiza, leaving police searching for the fleeing driver. The incident occurred on December 15th, 2024, at approximately 1:52 PM along New Chitungwiza Road.
The driver, whose identity remains unknown, was driving a Nissan Caravan kombi bearing registration number AGZ 0118.
According to a statement released on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) official social media page, the driver struck the young victim before abandoning both the body and the vehicle at Chitungwiza General Hospital. The driver then disappeared, leaving the scene without rendering any assistance to the injured child. The police appeal for information regarding the driver’s whereabouts is urgent.

Their statement provides details of the crime: “ZRP Mbare is investigating a hit-and-run fatal road traffic accident in which a grade 7 learner, 13, died after being hit by an unknown motorist who was driving a Nissan Caravan kombi, registration number AGZ 0118, along New Chitungwiza Road on 15 December 2024 at around 1.52PM. The driver dumped the body and kombi at Chitungwiza Hospital and fled to an unknown destination. Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.”
