The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the five people who tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. The accident, which occurred at approximately 4:30 PM near Chisengu Estate in Chimanimani, involved a Nissan Diesel truck that veered off the road and plunged into a steep valley.
The ZRP confirmed that the truck, carrying six passengers, lost control while navigating a curve along the Machongwe-Tarka Road. The vehicle careened off the road, plummeting into the valley before coming to rest on its wheels. Police suspect excessive speed may have contributed to the accident.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, released a statement identifying the deceased victims, all of whom were from Chimanimani: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the five victims who were identified by their next of kin… They are Beloved Mashava (34) of Manase Village, Constance Makoyani (26) of Chiumba Village, Frank Muusha (34) of Muusha Village, Christopher Rice (49), of Hangani Village and Nobert Magayo (26), of Chikukwa Village.”
The bodies of the victims were transported to Chimanimani and Mutambara Hospitals for post-mortem examinations. Two other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and are currently receiving treatment at Mutambara Hospital. The severity of the incident is underscored by the truck’s significant descent into the valley and the injuries sustained by the occupants.
Commissioner Nyathi’s statement included a strong appeal for responsible driving: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores motorists to avoid speeding when travelling on the country’s roads, especially when carrying goods and passengers. Above all, it is risky to mix goods and passengers when travelling.”
