The death of prominent Kadoma pharmacist and entrepreneur, Elison Tambudza, has become the talk of town in Kadoma. The 67-year-old was shot dead on Friday evening, 20:30 hours, at his home, 2216 Jacaranda Drive, Westview, Kadoma.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery, leaving residents and law enforcement grappling for answers.

The incident unfolded as Tambudza returned home in his white Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number ACM0498. An armed guard employed by Amark Security (Pvt) Limited, stationed at the property, observed two unidentified men scaling the perimeter wall. Before he could intervene, the assailants overpowered the guard, binding his hands with shoelaces. They proceeded to question him, demanding information about Tambudza’s usual arrival time.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted the events: “As the suspected robbers were interrogating the guard, Tambudza arrived at the gate…one of the accused persons proceeded to open the gate. Without noticing anything suspicious, Tambudza drove straight to the carport, but as he was doing so, the guard managed to free himself, evaded the other accused person watching over him and rushed next door to seek help. The guard, who later became informant, said he heard two gunshots as he sought reinforcement from neighbours.”

The neighbour’s assistance arrived too late. Upon reaching Tambudza’s carport, they discovered his lifeless body, suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. The scene was immediately secured, and the police were notified.

Adding to the bewilderment, the police investigation revealed that Tambudza’s valuable possessions were untouched. His vehicle, with its keys, his cellphones, and any cash he may have had on his person, remained undisturbed. This detail casts doubt on a simple robbery motive and deepens the mystery surrounding the killing.

Police from Kadoma Central and Homicide detectives responded swiftly, processing the crime scene and transporting Tambudza’s body to Kadoma General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives working to establish a clear motive for the murder.

The security guard, who managed to escape his captors and alert neighbours, has been arrested and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. His account of the events, including the assailants’ interrogation and his subsequent escape, forms a crucial part of the ongoing investigation. The police are exploring all avenues, including the possibility of a targeted attack, given the lack of any apparent robbery motive.
