Bulawayo – A pall of sadness has fallen over the Mnangagwa family following the sudden death of Ishmael Maburisa, driver to Deputy Finance Minister David Mnangagwa.
Maburisa was found dead in his hotel room at the Greys Inn in Bulawayo on Sunday, October 27th, just hours after the conclusion of the Zanu PF annual conference.
The circumstances surrounding Maburisa’s death remain unclear, although hotel sources suggest a possible diabetic episode. According to these sources, Maburisa had repeatedly approached the hotel reception shouting, “get me food please,” indicating a potential episode of hypoglycaemia, or low blood sugar.
“They gave him porridge, the only food that was there. He went back to his room but after a short period he started twitching and convulsing as though he was having an epileptic episode and he unfortunately died,” a hotel source recounted. Police, who attended the scene, confirmed finding diabetes medication in Maburisa’s room.
An internal police memo, obtained by ZimLive, confirmed Maburisa’s identity as the driver of Deputy Minister David Mnangagwa. However, it remains unconfirmed whether the Deputy Minister was still in Bulawayo at the time of Maburisa’s death or had already returned to Harare following the Saturday conclusion of the Zanu PF conference. Police have declined to comment on the matter.
This tragic event follows a series of unsettling incidents involving President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son. In June of this year, his Harare home, which is under police guard, was targeted in a series of disturbing events.
On June 23rd, unknown individuals broke into the Borrowdale residence. This was followed by a second break-in on June 25th, during which three bullets were discovered outside his bedroom door and three more outside the house. The situation escalated further on June 28th when the house caught fire under mysterious circumstances.
The motives behind these attacks remain shrouded in mystery, and investigations are ongoing. The incidents involving the President’s son highlight a concerning trend of security breaches and unexplained attacks targeting high-profile individuals and their families. The authorities are undoubtedly under pressure to provide answers and ensure the safety and security of those in prominent positions.
The death of Ishmael Maburisa adds another layer of complexity to an already tense situation. While the immediate cause of death appears to be linked to a medical condition, the timing and location raise questions that require thorough investigation. The fact that the incident occurred shortly after a major political event adds another dimension to the circumstances surrounding his death.
