Zandie says Kelly Khumalo couldn’t afford paying hitmen for killing Senzo Meyiwa, wants window Mandisa investigated

MUSICIAN Zandie Khumalo says Senzo Meyiwa’s widow Mandisa Mkhize should also be investigated in the Senzo murder case.

Senzo, a former South Africa’s Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain was gunned down at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on 26 October 2014.

Speaking to eNCA, Zandie, who is also Kelly Khumalo’s sister, said it’s been discovered that the hitmen are from Nongoma, where Mandisa originally came from.

“I’ve tried mentioning it to Brigadier Gininda, so I don’t know what he’s made out of it,” Zandie said.

Brigadier Bongani Gininda is a leading investigating officer in the Senzo murder case.

Zandie said another pointer she wants to raise on Mandisa’s side is that there are private lawyers representing the Meyiwa murder accused.

“Who’s paying them? We all know that these people (accused) are doing lousy jobs, some of them are dancers at some point and other are miners. They don’t have that much capital to have these people (lawyers) representing them. Lawyers are ‘bad’, but they get paid at the end of the day. Who’s paying them?” she said.

Zandie said the other day she bumped into Senzo’s murder accused’s legal representative, Advocate Zandile Mshololo, on a flight.

“Mshololo stays in Durban, and flies to Joburg every time she has to represent accused number five. Who’s paying for the hotel (accommodation)? Who’s paying for her? Plus, she has a partner. If the police must follow the money trail, maybe something will come out, I don’t know.”

Zandie said her sister Kelly didn’t order the hit, and didn’t have money to do something like that.

She’s not capable of ordering the hit and at that time. Also, we need to take into account that she was on the verge of going back to the (music) industry because she was off for some time. So, she didn’t have capital and taking into account that she loved him. She had more to lose. She had nothing to gain, so for me there was no motive there,” she said.

The news crew contacted Zandie for further comment, but she refused to comment.

The SunTeam contacted Senzo’s widow Mandisa. She answered her phone, and when she heard that she was speaking to a journalist, she hung up the phone.

“No comment Jabulani, bye,” she said.

As the decade-long case involving the death of former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa continues, singer Zandie Khumalo has made shocking revelations about who she believes may be responsible for his murder.

Zandie recently appeared in an exclusive interview with the news broadcaster eNCA where she accused Senzo’s widow Mandisa Mkhize of hiring the hitmen.

During the time of the footballer’s passing in 2014, Senzo and Mandisa were still married while he and Kelly Khumalo were secretly seeing one another.

On the day of his passing, the Bafana captain is said to have visited his girlfriend Kelly when gunmen stormed into her mother’s home in Vosloorus and murdered him.

Police have since had a breakthrough in making five arrests but have yet to get to the root of finding out who ordered the hit, with his girlfriend Kelly being among the suspects.

In her interview with eNCA, Zandie claims that people are looking in the wrong direction and claims that Mandisa is the one they should be looking to for answers. This comes after the widow is said to come from the same area as the gunmen who were arrested.

“It has been discovered that the hitmen are from KwaNongoma. Mandisa is from KwaNongoma.”

Despite court findings that Kelly was in contact with one of the gunmen and later cleared her cell phone data, she firmly believes that her sister is innocent.

The case relating to the murder is currently ongoing.

Zandie Khumalo believes that the people who killed soccer star Senzo Meyiwa ten years ago had come for her sister, Afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo.

Zandie spoke about the fateful night on the Gagasi FM Fast Lane show yesterday. Meyiwa was shot dead in a botched robbery at Kelly’s home in Vosloorus in October 2014.

The Ngiya’kuthanda hitmaker detailed the events of that fateful night. During the interview on the KwaZulu Natal-based radio station, Zandie was adamant that the hitmen were sent to kill her sister.

“Seeing that everyone has their theories around this matter, let me share mine. First, those guys are professional izinkabi (hitmen). If they were going to kill Senzo, they would have shot him the minute they walked into the house and then returned to shoot him to make sure he was dead,” she said.

She added that when Longwe Twala, who was inside the house at the time of the shooting, managed to push one of the alleged killers outside while Kelly ran into the bedroom, one of the guys followed Kelly, leaving Senzo, which proves to me that their target was Kelly, not Senzo,” she added.

Five men, who were arrested in 2020, are currently on trial in the matter at the Pretoria North High Court. The accused Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are charged with premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. They have all pleaded not guilty.
