Chiredzi – A grim discovery has sent ripples of concern through the Westwood community in Chiredzi, following the discovery of the decomposing body of a domestic worker inside a locked house.

The deceased, identified as Jabson Bunukwa Kwangwari (35), from Vilael in Runhare in Chiredzi, was found in the home of his employer, Christopher Nyathi (75). The circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery, prompting a police investigation and an urgent appeal for public assistance.

The chilling discovery was made on the morning of 11 October, at approximately 8 am. Mr. Nyathi, the homeowner, noticed a disturbing sight: a large number of flies congregating around the door of the outbuilding where Mr. Kwangwari resided. A strong, unpleasant odour also emanated from the structure, raising immediate concerns.

Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa, the Masvingo Province police spokesperson, confirmed the details of the tragic find. “The body of Jabson Bunukwa Kwangwari (35), from Vilael in Runhare, Chiredzi, was found decomposing in the house where he worked for Christopher Nyathi (75), in Westwood, Chiredzi,” Insp Dehwa stated. The advanced state of decomposition suggests Mr. Kwangwari had been deceased for some time before his body was discovered.

The police were immediately alerted, and upon arrival, they found the door to the outbuilding locked from the outside. Forced entry revealed a scene that indicated foul play. Insp Dehwa detailed the grim scene: “Police subsequently forced open the locked door and discovered the body inside, surrounded by blood and in a state of decomposition. The body had a large wound on the head and hand, his trousers were pulled down, and belongings and other items were scattered throughout the house.”

The description strongly suggests a violent struggle may have occurred before Mr. Kwangwari’s death. The disarray of his personal belongings further supports this theory.

The body was subsequently transported to Chiredzi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide crucial information about the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The results of the autopsy will be vital in guiding the police investigation and determining the next steps.

Given the suspicious nature of the death and the evidence suggesting foul play, the police have launched a full-scale investigation. They are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation.

Inspector Dehwa issued a public appeal: “As police, we appeal to the public to assist us with information regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of this man whose body was found decomposing in the house, so that those responsible for this crime can be brought to justice.”

The police are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact any nearest police station.

The police have provided contact numbers for anyone with information: 263392264421 or 0775 996 945. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the police continue their inquiries.
