A 17-year-old Form 4 student is recovering after a horrific gang rape at the Tilcor Industrial site in Chitungwiza last Thursday at around 7pm.

The ordeal began innocently enough. The student, whose name is being withheld to protect her privacy, visited a nearby tuckshop to purchase airtime. It was on her return journey that her nightmare began.

As she walked home, two men accosted her, demanding her Huawei 9 Prime cellphone. Fearful for her safety, she handed over the device. The situation escalated dramatically with the arrival of an unregistered black Honda Fit, containing a single occupant.

One of the two men who had robbed her then seized the opportunity, grabbing the student and forcing her into the waiting car. The perpetrators issued a chilling threat: any attempt to call for help would result in her death. The car sped away.

The vehicle eventually stopped in a secluded, bushy area within the Tilcor Industrial site. The driver, one of the initial robbers, pulled the student from the car, and the three men subjected her to a brutal and unprotected gang rape.

Following the horrific attack, the perpetrators callously abandoned their victim at the scene and fled. The traumatised student eventually sought help, and was escorted to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for essential medical examinations.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the details of the case to reporters.

“Police are investigating a rape case involving a student in Chitungwiza,” Inspector Chakanza stated.

He detailed the events, confirming that, “Three men were reported to have taken turns to rape her. Thereafter, the accused persons drove away and left the complainant at the scene. The complainant was escorted to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for medical examinations.”
