Harare – A tragic weekend in Harare has left three men dead under separate and disturbing circumstances. Police are investigating a suspected drowning, a fatal stabbing, and an electrocution, leaving communities reeling and authorities pursuing multiple suspects.
The first incident involved the death of 21-year-old Wayne Kudakwashe Gamble, whose body was discovered in a swimming pool at a house along Tedder Road in the Highlands suburb on September 29th, 2024. According to a police statement on X, Gamble had been attending a party with former schoolmates at the residence when the tragedy occurred.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, stating, “The ZRP is investigating a suspected case of drowning in which Wayne Kudakwashe Gamble (21) was found dead in a swimming pool at a house along Tedder Road, Highlands on September 29, 2024. The victim had attended a party with former schoolmates at the house when the tragic incident occurred. The body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.”
Police have launched a manhunt for two male suspects believed to be connected to Gamble’s death. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear pending the post-mortem results.
In a separate incident, police in Epworth are investigating a murder case stemming from a dispute over US$3. According to police, Evidence Shirichena and Elvis Shirishena allegedly stabbed their cousin, 30-year-old Justice Magombeze, in the stomach following an argument. Magombeze succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Chitungwiza Central Hospital. Both suspects are currently at large.
Adding to the weekend’s grim tally, police are also investigating the death of a man found deceased at a substation along Zidube Ranch Battle Street in Harare on September 28th, 2024. Preliminary investigations suggest the victim died after tampering with a copper wire, resulting in a fatal electric shock.
