Beitbridge – A chilling case of family betrayal has ripped a Beitbridge family apart, after a 22-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to have lula lula his stepmother.

The incident occurred on 15 September 2024 and has left many questioning the depths of human depravity and the sanctity of family bonds.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused man, whose identity has not been disclosed, entered his stepmother’s bedroom under the guise of needing washing powder. The NPAZ detailed the events in a statement on X, stating that the complainant was lying in bed when the accused knocked on the door and was allowed entry. He requested washing powder, but the complainant told him she would give him money to buy some later.

The accused left and returned shortly after, opening the door without knocking, peering inside, and then leaving again.

This unsettling behaviour continued, with the accused returning a third time, hurriedly opening the door and approaching the complainant, who was still in her blankets. He moved around the room, closed the door, and the complainant, sensing danger, jumped out of bed.

The NPAZ statement continued, “The accused person pulled down his trousers, charged towards the complainant and tripped her. He removed the complainant’s skirt and tried to rape her. While they were wrestling, a neighbour who was outside shouted the accused person’s name to stop what he was doing. The accused person stopped when he heard more neighbours gathered outside.”

The intervention of the neighbours, who heard the commotion and shouted the accused’s name, prevented a more horrific outcome.

A police report was filed, leading to the accused’s arrest. After hearing the evidence presented, the court found the accused guilty of attempted rape and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
