The young woman, who was impregnated by a 36-year-old man named Kudzai Masakadze, is facing a difficult situation, compounded by the lack of support from both her parents and the man who fathered her children, H-Metro has reported.
The story unfolds like a tragic tale of abuse, manipulation, and ultimately, abandonment. Masakadze, who initially sought to settle the matter with the girl’s parents, later began to mistreat her, leading to her family taking her back to their village in Mvurwi.
“It is true that I am the one responsible for her pregnancy,” Masakadze admitted to H-Metro.
“Medical examination has since confirmed twin babies we are expecting. When I impregnated her, I approached her parents and we agreed to settle the damages. I paid US$100 towards her examination fees.”
However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the girl’s mother accused Masakadze of ill-treating her daughter and took her back to their village.
“I could not continue supporting her because of her mother,” Masakadze claimed.
“They are now struggling to have baby wear since she is expecting and Tadiwanashe is ever calling for help. Ngaabatsirweka nevakamutora kwandiri,” he added as he seemingly attempting to shift the blame for the girl’s predicament.
A close relative of the girl confirmed that Masakadze’s abuse was the reason for their decision to end the marriage.
“Yes, we took our daughter because of the ill-treatment she endured,” the relative told H-Metro.
“Our daughter is expecting twin babies according to a scan and we have no baby wear for the twins expected. If we may get assistance.”
The relative further revealed that Masakadze had initially pleaded for mercy when he impregnated the girl, but his behaviour changed after he felt safe from arrest.
“Takarega kumusungisa tichiti tavekuworirana zvino mmmmm itsotsi chairo Masakadze,” the relative said, expressing their disappointment and anger at Masakadze’s actions.
The 16-year-old girl, now facing the daunting task of preparing for the arrival of twins, has been under immense pressure from both her parents and Masakadze for the past nine months. Her story highlights the vulnerability of young girls in Zimbabwe, particularly when they become victims of abuse and exploitation by older men.
