A Kwekwe mathematics teacher has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for having lula lula 16-year-old student during a private lesson.
Musiiwa Chuma, 44, a teacher at Step-Up College in Mbizo 11 in Kwekwe, pleaded not guilty to the charge, claiming that the student was his girlfriend and that the two were in agreement of enjoying lula lula as a couple.
However, a magistrate found him guilty following a full trial. The incident occurred on July 29, around 4 PM, at the college. Chuma was alone with the student, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, when he allegedly closed the door and began to assault her. He dragged her to a desk and raped her without protection.
After the ordeal, the student contacted one of her teachers, who alerted her parents. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Chuma’s arrest.
The prosecution, led by Miss Fatuma Tekera, argued that Chuma had abused his position of trust as a teacher to prey on the student. The court agreed, finding that the evidence presented by the prosecution was compelling.
