Chinhoyi was left reeling in shock after a horrifying incident where a man was brutally assaulted, robbed of his clothes and money, and left utterly exposed in the dead of night.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was left struggling to cover his modesty with his hands after a group of four men ambushed him, leaving him naked and humiliated.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed the arrest and sentencing of the four men, identified as Kelton Muleya (23), Takudzwa Chiwara (22), Edmore Mutandwa (33), and Usher Tagarira (22). They were arraigned before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing robbery charges.

The incident occurred on the 27th of July 2024, at around 1:50 am, as the victim was walking home from a night club in Mutorashanga. The four men had been following him from the club, where he had been drinking.

The NPAZ statement details the chilling attack: “Along the way, the accused persons grabbed the complainant and assaulted him with open hands and fists. The first accused person tripped the complainant, searched him and took US$30 from his pocket.

“They stripped the complainant naked before they disappeared into the darkness. The complainant was assisted by a passerby who accompanied him to file a police report. The accused persons were later arrested and they led to the recovery of the complainant’s money and clothes.”

The victim, left utterly vulnerable and exposed, was forced to use his hands to shield his ‘anaconda and its two eggs’ as he stumbled through the darkness, seeking help. The sheer audacity and brutality of the attack have left Zimbabweans talking on social media.

The four men were each given a 12-month prison sentence, but six months of the sentence were suspended, meaning they will only serve six months behind bars. While the sentencing brings a sense of justice for the victim, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the shadows, even in seemingly safe areas.
