A suspected robbery gang has left a trail of violence and grief in Harare after a brutal attack on a group of security guards at a local hotel. Liberty Chinembiri, a 24-year-old security guard, succumbed to his injuries after the attack, leaving nine of his colleagues nursing various wounds.
The incident occurred on August 27th at a hotel situated along Iford Road in the Ardbennie, Waterfalls area. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the tragic event, with National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi detailing the horrific circumstances.
“Police in Harare are investigating a case of murder which occurred at a hotel along Iford Road, Ardbennie, Waterfalls on August 27, 2024,” stated Commissioner Nyathi.
“A security guard, Liberty Chinembiri (24) was attacked by unknown suspects while on duty with other nine security guards and was found with multiple injuries behind the hotel. He was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he died upon admission,” Commissioner Nyathi narrated.
The assailants remain unidentified, and the ZRP is appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their apprehension.
“ZRP is appealing to anyone with information pertaining to the incident to report at any nearest police station,” urged Commissioner Nyathi.
The hotel, a fairly popular destination for both locals and tourists, has been plunged into a state of mourning and disbelief. The attack has left a sense of unease and fear among staff and patrons alike.
