The Masvingo-Mbalabala Highway, a once-familiar route for travellers, is quickly gaining notoriety as a deadly stretch of road.
Just a month after a horrific accident claimed the lives of two pedestrians, a head-on collision between a Toyota Belta and an Inter-Africa bus on Monday, August 26th, has left two more people dead and two injured.
The accident, which occurred at around 5.10pm at the 38-kilometre peg along the highway, involved a Toyota Belta carrying two occupants and an Inter-Africa bus carrying 43 passengers. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the tragic deaths of the two occupants of the Toyota Belta.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident in a statement on X, stating that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were treated and discharged at Mashava Clinic.
This latest tragedy comes on the heels of another fatal accident on the same road just a month prior.
The recent string of accidents on the Masvingo-Mbalabala Highway has raised serious concerns about the safety of the road.
The ZRP has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
They are also investigating the cause of the latest accident to determine if there were any contributing factors, such as human error or vehicle conditions.
