The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) is pulling out all the stops to encourage motorists to get their vehicle licences in order, with a series of promotions planned for the upcoming Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.

The show, taking place from August 29 to September 2, will see Zinara offering free licence disks, free tollgate passes, and discounts of up to 25% on vehicle insurance.

“We are excited to announce these promotions for the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show. We believe that these initiatives will not only make the show more accessible for visitors but also provide them with significant savings on their vehicle-related expenses,” said Zinara’s head of corporate communications and marketing, Mrs Tsungie Manyeza.

Zinara is working with several corporate partners to make these promotions a reality, including CBZ, Zimnat, Old Mutual and Tyre Club Fitment Centre.

“Our partners have come through with a 25 percent discount on light motor vehicle licensing discs; provided you buy their respective insurance cover notes. This is applicable to CBZ, Old Mutual and Zimnat. Tyre Club Fitment Centre will be offering free wheel alignment, wheel balancing and suspension checks vouchers to at least 120 motorists that are going to license during the show,” explained Mrs Manyeza.

The promotion with CBZ will run daily at all their Harare branches, as well as at selected tollgates and Zinara offices on certain days. Old Mutual will be running their promotion at selected Zinara offices and tollgates on selected days, with both partners offering their services daily at the Zinara agricultural show office.

Tyre Club Fitment Centre will be at the Zinara stand every day, with the Zimnat promotion also taking place at the stand on Monday.

“From a Zinara perspective, we are going to be giving out 100 free licence discs to 100 lucky winners. We also have free toll passes and the mechanics of this promotion will be explained fully to those that will visit our stand,” said Mrs Manyeza.

Zinara is hoping that these promotions will help them achieve their goal of increasing the vehicle licensing compliance rate to 80% by the end of the year.

“I am sure the nation is now aware that our core mandate is to mobilise funds for rehabilitation and maintenance of our national road network,” said Mrs Manyeza.

“As such, our target during this year’s agricultural show is to boost our vehicle licensing compliance rate and catalyse a sustainable culture of compliance among motorists. “We, therefore, resolved to run a cocktail of exciting promotions that will help us to achieve this objective,” she added.

Vehicle licensing makes up over 30% of Zinara’s total revenue, so boosting compliance is a key priority for the organisation.

The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show is an ideal platform for Zinara to reach out to the public and showcase their work.

“We have a lot to share with the members of the public in terms of the work that we are doing and what we have achieved this year. So far, we have disbursed close to 1,5 million litres of fuel to road authorities to accelerate road rehabilitation projects. This is in addition to our regular financial disbursements. We want to share all these stories with the public, including how we have managed to transform the organisation to become a vital cog towards the realisation of Vision 2030,” said Mrs Manyeza.

With a range of exciting promotions on offer, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show is set to be a busy event for Zinara. The organisation is hoping that these promotions will help to boost vehicle licensing compliance rates and raise awareness of their important work in maintaining and improving Zimbabwe’s road network.

The Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) has said it has put steps to increase surveillance, enhance security and streamline efficiency during this year’s exhibition to try and curb potential of theft, incidences of lost children and untoward accidents.

Speaking at a press briefing in Harare, ZAS Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Matibiri said this year’s show – the 114th edition of the annual showcase – will be different from past events.

“This year’s event, scheduled from Monday 26 August to Saturday 31 August 2024, at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Business Hub, in Harare, will be a remarkable celebration of Zimbabwe’s vibrant and innovative agricultural industry,” he said.

“We have held a series of meetings with the police for four days, and they assured us that they will deploy more officers.

“We have put in place CCTV’s all over, and we will put tags on children with phone numbers of parents to enhance our security and drones will be flying above,” Matibiri said.

The theme for the 2024 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show is “Cultivating Prosperity. Growing Business. Innovating for Change. Nurturing our Future.”

Gate fees for adults from Monday to Thursday are US$5 and US$7 from Friday to Saturday.

Children’s entry fee is US$1 and shall be US$2 on Friday and Saturday.
