A chilling incident has villagers in Tengwe in Matabeleland South province, leaving a young man dead after a confrontation over urine with two drunk beer-lovers.
Josphat Jere, 24, was brutally stoned to death last week after he confronted Biggie Fanamaya (19) and Edson Mambo (25) for urinating on the walls of a shop at Masaisai Business Centre.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, revealing that the assailants were apprehended following the tragic event.
“Biggie Fanamaya (19) and Edson Mambo (25) were arrested for a case of murder which occurred on August 20, 2024 at Masaisai Business Centre, Mazhaka 1, Tengwe in which Josphat Jere (24) died. The suspects hit the victim with a stone on the head after an argument during a beer drinking spree. The victim had confronted the suspects for urinating on the walls of a shop,” stated the police in a statement.
The incident highlights a disturbing trend of violence linked to alcohol abuse, a pervasive issue in Zimbabwe. The senseless act of stoning a man to death over a minor altercation underscores the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and the need for stronger measures to address this societal problem.
In a separate incident, police in Norton apprehended Soul Shezhu (27) in connection with the murder of Matanhire Nyikadzino (39) at Jingxrown Farm.
Shezhu allegedly stabbed Nyikadzino with a homemade knife on the back and throat, before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone. Nyikadzino’s body was discovered the following day beside a footpath. The arrest led to the recovery of the knife and stolen cellphone.
