Chitungwiza – A shocking case of domestic violence has left a Chitungwiza court in disbelief, as a 75-year-old man stands accused of a horrific assault on his wife of 48 years.
Sekuru Joseph Mpaso, a plumber by profession, stands accused of plastering his wife, Mbuya Nurse Nota, with human waste and shoving some of it into her mouth.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at their home in St Mary’s, following a disagreement at their vegetable stall in Mandaza Corner Shops. Mbuya Nota, a market vendor, left the stall in a huff, heading home to relieve herself. Unbeknownst to her, her husband was close behind.
“I was shocked to see the toilet door suddenly burst open and my husband entering,” Mbuya Nota recounted in court.
“He hoisted me up from the toilet seat, scooped a handful of my poo and forced it into my mouth. He also physically assaulted me in the process,” she said.
The alleged assault didn’t end there. Mpaso is accused of then plastering his wife’s face and upper body with faeces, before tearing her clothes.
Mbuya Nota, determined to show the police the extent of the trauma she had endured, chose not to clean herself before walking into the charge office at St Mary’s Police Station.
She presented herself to the officers with the “evidence” of her husband’s alleged actions still on her body.
The case was subsequently brought before the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, where Mpaso pleaded guilty to indecent assault. He was remanded in custody until today.
Mbuya Nota, who has six children and 13 grandchildren with Mpaso, revealed that this was not the first time the couple had experienced conflict.
“This is not the first time we have been at loggerheads,” she told the court while her voice was laced with pain and frustration.
