Bulawayo: A seemingly evil 21-year-old woman from Cowdray Park high density suburb of Bulawayo is facing charges of ill-treating and neglecting her 10-year-old stepson after allegedly assaulting him on multiple occasions and denying him food.
The case was heard at the Western Commonage Magistrates Court, where the woman appeared before Magistrate Mr Vakayi Douglas Chikwekwe.
The prosecution, led by Mr Milton Moyo, alleged that the abuse took place between July 1st and August 4th. The court heard that the woman had repeatedly assaulted the boy and withheld food from him.
“The matter came to light on August 4th at around 7am when a neighbour became suspicious after spotting the victim with a swollen face,” Mr Moyo told the court.
The neighbour’s concern led to the boy revealing the horrific truth. He told them that he had been assaulted and denied food on numerous occasions by his stepmother.
A report was immediately made to the police, leading to the woman’s arrest. The young boy was taken to the hospital for a medical examination.
The accused woman was remanded out of custody until August 23rd on US$50 bail.
