A jealousy Harare man, Blessing Matsvai, 29, has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on two counts of attempted murder. The charges stem from a violent incident where Matsvai allegedly stabbed his girlfriend and her male companion while they were asleep in bed together.
The court heard that on August 4, Linda Moyo, 31, was fast asleep in the company of her ‘Ben 10’ Takunda Chitope, 24, at House Number 28 Rayham Street, Eastlea, Harare. Matsvai entered the house and found the visibly “tired couple” already asleep.
Out of jealousy that his bae was dishing out ‘bota’ to another man, Matsvai then stabbed Moyo once between the left collar bones with a kitchen knife. He then turned his anger on Chitope, stabbing him once between the right collar bone and once below the right ear before fleeing the scene.
The attack, which occurred two Sundays ago, was allegedly triggered by jealousy. Matsvai, who was in a relationship with Moyo, had found her in bed with another man.
Appearing before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, Matsvai pleaded guilty to the charges. The State, represented by prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, detailed the events leading up to the stabbing.
Chirenje revealed that Chitope and Moyo were in bed together when Matsvai stormed into the room. He then proceeded to stab Chitope once below the right ear and once in the right collar bone.
Matsvai then turned his attention to Moyo, stabbing her in the left collar bone before disappearing from the scene.
On July 4, Chitope and Moyo reported the incident to the police, leading to Matsvai’s arrest. The complainants sustained deep cuts as a result of the attack.
Moyo’s age, 31, and Chitope’s age, 24, suggest a “sugar mama and Ben 10” relationship, where a woman enjoys the sweet love of a much younger man. This dynamic may at times lead to complications and conflict, as seen in this case.
