A 44-year-old herdboy, Nkululeko Moyo, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting a maid after she refused his sexual advances. The incident took place on 1 August this year.
The court heard how Moyo, upon arriving at his employer’s residence, encountered the maid and demanded that she engage in sexual activity with his friend. When she refused, Moyo’s anger flared, leading to a violent attack.
Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa detailed the events, painting a picture of Moyo’s aggression and the maid’s desperate attempts to resist his advances. “He tore the complainant’s blouse before physically assaulting her,” Madziwa told the court.
Moyo’s actions were driven by a desire to force the maid into a sexual encounter, despite her clear refusal. This blatant disregard for her consent and the subsequent assault demonstrate the severity of the crime.
The case was heard by Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who ultimately found Moyo guilty of assault. While the court handed down an 18-month prison sentence, it was conditionally suspended for 420 hours of community service at Tahangangana Secondary School.
