The family of Leo Tinashe Masocha, a bus conductor who died in a tragic accident along the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway, is demanding answers about the circumstances surrounding his death. The family is alleging inconsistencies in the accounts given by the bus driver and the police, leading them to suspect foul play, H-Metro has reported.

The incident occurred on July 1st, at around 10am, at the 60 km peg along the highway. Initial reports suggested that Masocha was hit by a trailer of a kombi and died on the spot. There were also claims that he was drunk at the time of the incident.

However, the family is disputing these claims. They insist that the vehicle involved was not a kombi, but a bus, and that the driver and the police are giving contradictory accounts of what happened.

Masocha’s mother, Miriam Zimondi, expressed her deep concern and confusion over the conflicting information. “The driver said Tinashe died at the hospital after he was hit by a car while police indicated that he died on the spot after a hit-and-run accident,” she said. “The statements are contradicting, why was our son not taken for post-mortem?”

Zimondi also revealed that the family was struggling financially and could not afford a post-mortem. “We have no money, tiri varombo. Mutumbi wakanzi ngauuye utorwe usina kuenda ku post-mortem,” she said.

Adding to the family’s suspicions, Zimondi stated that the driver’s account of the incident was inconsistent with the police report. “The driver is saying a different story, achiti mwana wedu akatsikwa nepick-up yanga iri kumashure asi haina kumira. The driver is saying akafira kuchipatara but police are saying akafira pa spot,” she said.

The family also raised concerns about the presence of blood in the bus, which was allegedly removed at the police station.

“There was blood in the bus and the blood was removed at the police station,” Zimondi said. “The driver is saying haana kutsika munhu.”

Further adding to the family’s distress, Zimondi revealed that some of Masocha’s clothes were missing from the bus. “Hembe dzake dzimwe dzanga dzakasara mubhazi hatizive kuti vakadziisa kupi?” she said.

The family is now demanding a full investigation into the incident, including a possible exhumation and post-mortem examination. “Inini ndiri kuda kuziva kuti mwana akafa nei, if it’s possible potoitwa exhumation, poitwa post-mortem,” Zimondi said.
