A nerve-wrecking incident Hurungwe, in Mashonaland West province has left villagers speechless after a local prominent businessman tragically shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself.
The incident occurred on Friday last week and the bodies of the couple were discovered at their homestead over the weekend. So far the reasons for the shooting are not yet known and police are still looking for leads that may help them learn what could have triggered the tragedy.
However, the prominent businessman had recently returned from the diaspora and was reportedly involved in fishery and cattle rearing projects in the rural outskirts of Hurungwe.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has confirmed that investigations are underway.
“The ZRP [Zimbabwe Republic Police] confirms that investigations are underway in connection with a case of suspected murder that occurred in Nkani village, Chief Nematombo, Hurungwe on August 2, 2024. More details will be released in due course once the next of kin of the deceased victims have been duly notified,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
