I warned Mugabe before the coup and you’re making the same mistakes my brother: President Mnangagwa told

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been told about a plot developing within Zanu PF to remove him from office through a palace coup. The same politicians who now appear most loyal to the President are allegedly planning to seize power.

Walter Mzembi, once Foreign Affairs minister before fleeing into exile in South Africa, believes history may repeat itself. Mzembi draws parallels between Mnangagwa’s vulnerable position and Robert Mugabe’s ouster, suggesting the backing Mnangagwa feels he has within the party cannot be fully trusted. While in exile,

Mzembi sends out a message to the President to be wary of those closest to him, as forces may be conspiring against his leadership behind closed doors. Mnangagwa would do well to heed this advice from a man with intimate knowledge of factionalism within Zanu PF and how quickly political fortunes can turn.

He further alleges that Mugabe’s final days did not end well. He claims that Mugabe suffered from what he terms “superstar dictator disease” in his final days. He says it is a paranoia that led him to see enemies in everyone.

“Mugabe suffered this disease of always shouting at people when he took the podium; the briefings he got incensed him, but it was all part of the act and conspiracy. They would tell him ‘You are a revolutionary you go down fighting’. Some of us desperately trying to prop up Brand Zimbabwe as part of our brief and mandate, would warn him as I do to my Murambwi brother here that they are trying to set you up for failure,” Mzembi said.

Mzembi was a former cabinet minister under Mugabe’s long reign and he alleges that Mnangagwa is surrounded by individuals who are creating and spreading false narratives to provoke him into irrational attacks against real and perceived detractors.

“Your rhetoric and the clampdown on civil society are all part of the act to make you look very bad, a superstar dictator hosting a SADC Summit,” Mzembi warned.

“So they make you see ghosts and enemies in your own people and children so that you arrest and torture them in your name and spread footage which also goes viral in your own ‘mhesvamukono’ language! Soon, you start receiving phone calls from your own SADC colleagues under pressure from the international community alarmed by such blatant and brazen violation of human rights and the next thing you have a boycott of this summit, and your own people box you exactly where they want you to be, an incompetent leader!”

Mzembi’s message to Mnangagwa is clear: “Wake up and smell the coffee Mr President. You are being set up to fail by your own. Stop this operation against your people. It’s loaded with conspiracy.”
