Mudzi – A bone-chilling occurrence of violence has deeply disturbed the community of Mudzi, leaving residents reeling in a whirlwind of horror and mourning. Takudzwa Bonga, a 25-year-old man who is a known mental illness patient, ruthlessly murdered his own father, Killion Bonga (77), in an abominably gruesome act that has triggered a tsunami of fear and disbelief sweeping through the village.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in Nyagupe Village, Mudzi on 29 July 2024. It is alleged that, in a fit of rage exacerbated by his afflicting mental disorder, Takudzwa Bonga callously bludgeoned his father repeatedly on the head with a stone, inflicting severe injuries. Unfortunately, the brutality did not end there. Subsequently, the young man proceeded to mutilate his father’s remains, slicing off his private parts and inserting a walking stick into his anus.
The news of the exceedingly traumatic crime rapidly percolated like wildfire throughout the village, leaving neighbours and relatives in a condition of shock and unbelief. The barbarically savage nature of the onslaught has prompted many to question how such a tragedy could unfold within a familial setting.
“It’s an unspeakably devastating occurrence. We recognised Takudzwa was not mentally well, but we never thought he would do something like this,” said a villager in Nyagupe area, Gogo Susan Munemo.
The police have detained Takudzwa Bonga regarding the murder. He is currently in custody awaiting appearance in court. However, in Zimbabwe, proven mentally troubled persons are usually acquitted on the grounds of being mentally unbalanced.
