Harare – A chilling incident of domestic violence, allegedly fuelled by a twisted desire for ritualistic wealth, has brought the Zvimba community to limelight.
Musa Hove (41) of Zvimba stands accused of assaulting his wife, Evangelistah Chadzingawafa (42), with a hammer, leaving her with head injuries, after she refused to participate in his alleged plan to sacrifice their child for ritual purposes.
The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, has raised concerns about the insidious influence of superstition and the vulnerability of women in the face of such beliefs.
“Since 2020, Hove had been insisting that they kill their third-born child for rituals to create wealth and enhance their business, but his wife could have none of it,” stated a police source, highlighting the disturbing history of the alleged abuse.
The couple’s bedroom became the scene of a terrifying struggle. Hove, consumed by his alleged desire for wealth, accused his wife of disrespecting him, a sentiment that quickly escalated into violence.
“He then instructed his wife to go and sleep in the spare bedroom with the children, and she complied,” the source continued, describing the chilling events. “It is alleged that soon after Ms Chadzingawafa left the room, Hove followed with a hammer and hit her twice on the head. She managed to disarm her husband who still went on to bite her right hand.”
The woman went and reported the matter to police, leading to Hove’s arrest.
On Wednesday, Hove appeared in court before Ms Winnet Joni charged with assault. The State, represented by Mrs Idris Mupandasekwa, will be seeking justice for Chadzingawafa, while Hove, facing the weight of his alleged actions, awaits his fate.
