Lupane – A sense of relief has washed over Mlonyeni Village in Lupane District following the arrest of Logic Nyathi, the 24-year-old man suspected of brutally axing his grandmother to death two weeks ago. The news of Nyathi’s apprehension, confirmed by Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda, has brought a measure of closure to the community, which has been reeling from the shocking murder of Lucy Sibanda.

“The police confirm that the manhunt for Logic Nyathi has yielded positive results, with the accused currently in the custody of Sipepa police,” Inspector Banda stated. “The Sipepa police team located the accused in the vicinity of the area. The homicide team from Lupane police has been dispatched to retrieve the accused and bring him to Lupane Police Station, where he will await court proceedings.”

The arrest comes after a two-week search operation, which saw police officers combing through the Lupane District, following a trail of clues and leads. The community, shaken by the brutal nature of the crime, had been on edge, with fear and anxiety casting a shadow over the village. The apprehension of Nyathi has brought a sense of calm, albeit a fragile one, to the community.

“We appreciate the commendable efforts of the police, who worked together tirelessly to uphold justice for all,” Inspector Banda said, commending the police force for their dedication to the case. “We encourage the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement so that criminals can be brought to justice.”

The murder of gogo Lucy Sibanda left the Mlonyeni village speechless and in a state of awe. The 80-year-old woman, a pillar of her family and community, was found brutally murdered in her bedroom hut on July 13th. Her body bore the gruesome marks of a violent attack, with several deep cuts on her head and a wound on the back of her neck.

The murder of a respected elder, a woman known for her kindness and generosity, left a gaping wound in the fabric of the community.

The investigation into Sibanda’s murder revealed a chilling tale of family betrayal. It emerged that her own grandson, Logic Nyathi, was the prime suspect. The motive for the murder remains unclear, but whispers of a family dispute, perhaps over inheritance or personal grievances, have been circulating in the village.

Inspector Banda, in his statement, urged the community to prioritize peace and harmony within their communities. “We urge individuals to seek the intervention of a third party in resolving disagreements and to opt for peaceful methods rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
