Chiredzi – A chilling tale of love turned deadly has unfolded in Chiredzi, leaving a community in shock and a family grieving the loss of a young mother. Blessing Marilele Chauke, a 43-year-old Nurse anaesthetist at Chiredzi General Hospital, stands accused of forcing his pregnant girlfriend, Mary Ruvimbo Muzorori, to take an abortion-inducing pill, ultimately leading to her death.

The tragedy unfolded on June 24, 2024, following a heated argument between the couple. Muzorori, 36, was pregnant with Chauke’s unborn child, but he allegedly denied responsibility for the pregnancy, leading to a bitter dispute.

According to Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa, “Circumstances are that Muzorori (36) of Maseko Road Chiredzi was in love with Chauke (43) of West Road Chiredzi. The two were in love until on the 24th of June when Mary died.”

Dhewa confirmed that Muzorori’s death was linked to the abortion pill, allegedly forced upon her by Chauke. The couple’s argument, fueled by Chauke’s denial of paternity, culminated in a desperate act that had devastating consequences.

Muzorori’s father, Bocho Nemia Enock Muzorori (68), driven by suspicion of foul play, reported the matter to the police. The authorities, acting swiftly, exhumed Muzorori’s body on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, and sent it to Bulawayo for a post-mortem examination. The results of the post-mortem, while not publicly released, are expected to shed light on the cause of Muzorori’s death and further strengthen the case against Chauke.

Meanwhile, Chauke, facing charges of culpable homicide, appeared before Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu. The case is expected to continue, with the prosecution seeking to prove Chauke’s guilt and hold him accountable for the alleged actions that led to Muzorori’s untimely death.
