In a case that echoes a disturbing pattern, public prosecutor Blessed Tawanda Nyandoro has found himself behind bars once more, this time for allegedly assaulting his lover, Mitchel Mudzongachisvo, H-Metro has reported.

This incident comes just two years after Nyandoro made headlines for a similar assault on another woman, a married girlfriend, in May 2022. The latest incident, which occurred yesterday, has sparked outrage and raised questions about the conduct of a public servant entrusted with upholding the law.

According to Mitchel, Nyandoro’s alleged assault followed her decision to end their relationship. “I could not stomach being abused daily and I decided to move away from our relationship,” she told H-Metro. “I lodged a police report against him recently and withdrew the case after he promised to make peace with me. But he went on to assault me, and this time I saw it was best for justice to take its course. He brags of being connected since he is a public prosecutor,” Mitchel added.

The alleged assault, which took place in Harare, has left Mitchel shaken and bruised, both physically and emotionally. She has now filed a formal complaint with the police, and Nyandoro is currently detained at Harare Central Police Station, awaiting his court appearance today.

This incident is not an isolated case. In May 2022, Nyandoro was involved in a similar altercation with another woman, Deria Zimbodza. Deria, who was married at the time, revealed that she had been assaulted by Nyandoro at a city hotel along Samora Machel Avenue in Harare. She claimed she had informed him of her decision to end their relationship, leading to the physical confrontation.

Their altercation ended at Harare Central Police Station, where both parties received counselling. Although Nyandoro confirmed exchanging blows with Zimbodza, he claimed it occurred at a time when she had not yet finalized her separation from her husband, Pedzisai Zimbodza.

The recurrence of these incidents raises serious concerns about Nyandoro’s behaviour and the potential for abuse of power. As a public prosecutor, he is expected to uphold the law and protect the rights of citizens. Yet, his actions suggest a disregard for the very principles he is sworn to uphold.
