A bitter dispute over a woman’s right to choose her own path has landed a 52-year-old man behind bars. Dominic Ncube, consumed by jealousy and rage, was sentenced to six years in prison by the Hwange Magistrates’ Court for a vicious attack on his ex-wife.
The attack, which involved a stick, a trip, and the insertion of needles into her chest, was a harrowing display of uncontrolled anger and a blatant disregard for the victim’s well-being.
The incident, which occurred on 18 October 2023, unfolded in a field where the woman was working. Ncube, unable to accept his ex-wife’s decision to remarry, confronted her, his anger simmering beneath the surface.
“A misunderstanding arose between the two and Ncube struck his ex-wife with a stick twice on the back. He tripped her and when she fell to the ground he took out two needles from his pocket which he inserted in her chest and abdomen and ran away,” stated the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe in a statement on X.
The woman, shaken and injured, was rescued by her new husband, who immediately took her to the police station to file a report. She was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention.
The court, in its ruling, found Ncube guilty of assault and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. However, two years of the sentence were suspended, leaving Ncube to serve an effective four years behind bars.
