In a resounding show of support, ZANU PF structures in Masvingo province have unanimously endorsed President Mnangagwa’s leadership, urging him to extend his tenure until 2030. The ruling party’s first secretary has been lauded for his vision and commitment to transforming Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income society.
The spirited endorsement unfolded during a vibrant ZANU PF provincial inter-district meeting held at Masvingo Polytechnic. Party leaders from all seven districts in Masvingo passionately expressed their desire for President Mnangagwa to continue leading the nation beyond 2028.
Notable figures in attendance included the party’s national political commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, and senior politburo members such as Cdes Lovemore Matuke, Paul Mangwana, John Paradza, and the party’s provincial chair, Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa. The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, also graced the occasion, further highlighting the significance of the meeting.
Masvingo Province’s call for an extended presidency comes in the wake of President Mnangagwa’s recent public announcement that he would not seek re-election beyond the constitutionally-mandated two terms, set to conclude in 2028. However, the fervent songs and slogans echoing through the inter-district gathering in Masvingo indicate the province’s strong desire to see President Mnangagwa continue at the helm.
Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa, ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Chair, conveyed the province’s collective sentiment, stating, “The message was clear from everyone who was in attendance at the inter-district meeting, that the ruling party in Masvingo wants President Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028. We are saying if there is an opportunity to do so, we will humbly request that he remains in office up to 2030.”
The provincial chair further emphasized that this was not merely his personal opinion but a reflection of the party members’ aspirations. Masvingo Province has witnessed firsthand the numerous infrastructural projects and developmental initiatives aligned with President Mnangagwa’s vision of transforming Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy by 2030. Thus, the province believes that an extended presidency will allow for the realization of this ambitious vision.
Cde Brian Munyoro, ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Secretary for Commissariat, echoed the unanimous sentiment, stating, “The province has spoken, and that is our position as a province: President Mnangagwa should remain in office up to 2030. We are fully behind the good work that he is doing, and we want him to continue so that he can complete his vision of making Zimbabwe an upper middle-income economy.”
The overwhelming support from Masvingo Province has left ZANU PF national political commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, facing a challenging task of conveying the province’s wishes to President Mnangagwa. During the meeting, Cde Machacha posed a rhetorical question to the delegates, “What will I go and tell the President?” In unison, the resolute crowd passionately called for the President to remain in charge beyond 2028.
While President Mnangagwa had expressed his intention to step down after serving his constitutionally-mandated terms, the groundswell of support from ZANU PF Masvingo Province may compel him to reconsider. The determination of Masvingo Province to see through the President’s vision and witness the transformation of Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income society has ignited a fervent debate within the ruling party’s ranks.
