A chilling incident of domestic violence has rocked the community of Masvosva village in Mwenezi, where a 25-year-old woman, Daisy Ivy Makanaka, is accused of murdering her husband, Talent Golden Masuku (40), in a fit of jealous rage.
The incident, which unfolded on the 10th of July, has left the community reeling in disbelief and sorrow. According to reports, Makanaka discovered her husband in the company of his ‘sugar mama’and former wife, Shingirai Mativenga (44), and her fury erupted, leading to a brutal attack that ended in tragedy.
“Police in Mwenezi have arrested Daisy Ivy Makanaka (25) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on July 10, 2024 at Masvosva village,” confirmed Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, in a statement released on social media.
“The suspect struck her husband, Talent Golden Masuku (40) with a log on the head and stabbed him with a kitchen knife on the back after finding him in the company of his ex-wife, Shingirai Mativenga (44),” the statement added.
The scene of the crime, a once peaceful homestead, now stands as a grim testament to the devastating consequences of unchecked rage. Witnesses, who requested anonymity, described the incident as a horrifying spectacle.
“It was like something out of a nightmare. We heard shouting and then saw Daisy attacking Talent with a log. She was screaming and seemed completely out of control. Then she grabbed a knife and stabbed him repeatedly,” one witness recounted.
The victim, Talent Masuku, reportedly died instantly from the injuries sustained in the attack. The scene was described as chaotic, with blood staining the ground and a palpable sense of horror permeating the air.
The attack did not stop with Masuku. Makanaka, in a fit of unbridled rage, turned on Mativenga, striking her on the head with a log and biting her on the cheek. Mativenga, thankfully, survived the attack and is currently receiving medical attention at a local clinic.
The motive behind the brutal attack is believed to be jealousy, fueled by Makanaka’s suspicion that her husband was rekindling his relationship with his ex-wife. The couple had been married for several years, and neighbours described them as having a generally amicable relationship, although whispers of infidelity had been circulating in recent months.
“They seemed like a happy couple, but there were always rumours about Talent seeing his ex-wife. We never thought it would end like this. It’s a terrible tragedy,” a neighbour confided.
The incident has sparked a wave of condemnation and concern within the community, highlighting the urgent need to address domestic violence and the devastating impact of jealousy.
