A chilling tale of brutality has emerged from the small village of Mupfuuri in Wedza, leaving the community reeling in shock and outrage. A teenage girl, Mavis Mada, 18, was subjected to a horrific four-hour assault at the hands of five young women, who filmed the entire ordeal. The attack, which involved the insertion of sticks into her private parts, has left Mavis fighting for her life and her family desperate for help.

The harrowing details of the assault were revealed by Mavis’s mother, Sebia Muchenjekwa, a widow struggling to cope with the medical costs of her daughter’s recovery. “My daughter is alive, but she is writhing in pain,” Sebia shared, her voice heavy with despair. “She has been bleeding continuously since the attack. I have used all the little money I had, and I have nothing left. She still needs further examinations and will have to attend court.”

The five assailants, Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lilly Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17), and Sandra Vhumbunu, were apprehended by police on July 10th, following the circulation of a disturbing video of the assault on social media.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrests, stating, “Reference is made to our post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police X handle on 10th July 2024 on a viral video circulating on social media platforms in which a female victim is being assaulted by a group of female suspects. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms their arrest on 10th July 2024 in connection with the case of aggravated indecent assault which occurred at Mupfuuri Village, Wedza on July 4, 2024.”

Commissioner Nyathi detailed the events of the horrific day, revealing that the suspects lured Mavis to Vimbai Mike’s homestead under the guise of giving her vegetable seedlings. “The suspects locked the victim in one of the huts and stripped her naked,” he said. “The five suspects took turns to assault the victim with switches and went on to insert three sticks into the victim’s private parts whilst recording a video. The victim fell unconscious and the suspects poured water on her before freeing her naked at 1500 hours.”

The police recovered a Vivo cellphone used to record the assault, further highlighting the callous nature of the crime. While Vimbai Mike remains in police custody, the four juvenile suspects have been released into the custody of their parents. All five will face the full force of the law.

Mavis is currently receiving medical attention at Mount St Mary’s Hospital. The extent of her injuries and the long-term impact of this horrific ordeal remain unknown.
