Beitbridge, Zimbabwe – In a shocking incident that has sent waves of outrage, three seemingly sex-starved and too muchlula lula-loving policemen have been arrested for allegedly repeatedly taking turns to rape an 18-year-old girl who had visited her sister at a police camp in Beitbridge.
The harrowing details of the assault have emerged, painting a distressing picture of abuse of power and violation of trust within the law enforcement ranks.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the first accused policeman took advantage of the victim while she was innocently bathing during her visit to her sister’s residence at Chitulipasi post camp quarters in Beitbridge. Startlingly, the assailant approached her from behind, silencing her cries for help by tightly covering her mouth before perpetrating the heinous act. The second accused officer allegedly committed a similar assault on the young woman on the 8th of June 2024, overpowering her by grabbing her neck and forcefully pushing her to the ground. The third accused officer, who visited the victim’s home alone on the 13th of June 2024, is said to have threatened her with a kitchen knife before subjecting her to yet another appalling violation.
The victim, traumatized by the harrowing ordeal, bravely reported the incidents to her mother upon returning to Bulawayo. The shocking revelations have ignited a firestorm of condemnation from the public, with citizens demanding justice for the young woman and calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged crimes.
“The safety and well-being of our citizens should be the utmost priority for the police force, and any deviation from that duty must be met with the full force of the law. We trust in the justice system to deliver a fair and swift resolution to this abhorrent case,” expressed a programs officer at a local non-governmental organisation who preferred to remain anonymous.
The NPAZ has confirmed that the accused officers are currently in custody pending further investigations and legal proceedings.
In the wake of this distressing incident, the need for robust measures to prevent such atrocities within the police force has become glaringly evident. It is imperative that steps be taken to improve the screening and training processes for law enforcement personnel, ensuring that only individuals of high integrity and moral character are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the community.
