Bulawayo stepmother charged with abusing young stepchildren
In a disturbing case of child abuse, a 29-year-old Bulawayo woman has been arraigned before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting her young stepchildren.
According to National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, on June 11, 2024, the accused individual brutally attacked her 5-year-old stepson and 3-year-old stepdaughter, inflicting injuries across their bodies using an unidentified object.
The younger victim, a 3-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries including bruising to her neck and body, as well as a broken hand. She is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The children’s father intervened and removed the young victims from the home before a police report was filed, leading to the stepmother’s arrest. She has been charged with contravening the Children’s Act.
The accused woman was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 4th as the investigation into the harrowing incident continues.
