A WOMAN (41) from Upper Woodhouse in Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape, was tragically murdered on Sunday, 23 June.
Nokwanda Mhlanga was stabbed, and her eyes gruesomely removed, allegedly by her boyfriend.
Petros Majola, representative for the Khula Community Project and the Mhlanga family, stated that Nokwanda is survived by her 14-year-old daughter and leaves her entire family devastated.
“The family is still shocked by the incident as they knew the suspect well. The entire village is shocked by the incident as they knew the couple,” Petros said.
He described the attack as senseless, occurring at the neighbour’s house where Nokwanda was visiting.
“He allegedly attacked her, killed her, and removed her eyes. Her lifeless body was found in the neighbour’s yard,” he recounted.
The family is currently facing difficulties with funeral arrangements due to financial constraints.
“She comes from a poor family, and arranging her funeral is a struggle,” Petros added.
While preparations for Nokwanda’s funeral are underway, the family also fears retaliation from the suspect.
“All the family wants is justice for Nokwanda,” he asserted.
Police investigate the matter
Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni confirmed that a murder case was opened, and investigations are ongoing.
