ZRP warns of online dating dangers after woman was lured to lodge and raped by stranger

In a troubling incident, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is cautioning the public against engaging in online dating with strangers after a young woman was lured to a hotel, assaulted, and then dumped.

According to police reports, a 28-year-old female from Dzivarasekwa Extension in Harare was contacted by a male suspect on an online dating platform on June 22nd, 2024. The suspect managed to convince the victim to meet him at a lodge in the Mabelreign area of the capital.

Upon arriving at the location, the woman was tragically raped by the suspect before being callously dumped near the Madokero Service Station. The traumatized victim was able to make her way to safety and report the incident to the authorities.

The ZRP has launched a full investigation into this heinous crime, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

“The ZRP urges the public not to engage in online dating with strangers. This follows an incident which occurred on 22/06/24 in which a female adult (28) from Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare, was lured to a lodge in Mabelreign by a male suspect.

“The suspect raped the victim before dumping her near Madokero Service Station,” reads the statement.
