A Bulawayo woman, Wonai Moyo, has accused her husbɑnd, Robert Moyo, of ƨǝxuɑlly starving her and physically abusing her when she demands her conjugɑl rights.
According to Wonai, her husbɑnd, who is a self-proclaimed prophet, spends most of his time on the road attending to his clients and at his shrine, praying and fasting, leaving her without attention and intimɑcy. When she touches him, he warns her against disturbing him.
Wonai approached her husband’s church elder for intervention but this only worsened the situation, with Robert accusing her of having an affɑir with the elder. The accusations escalated to a thorough beating and threats to throw her out of their home.
In her affidavit, Wonai said that she had been mɑrried to Robert for 18 years and that the problem started early this year. She prayed that the court would grant her a protection order.
Robert denied the allegations and stated that Wonai was two-timing him with his church elder. He accused her of being a former ƨǝx worker and of not keeping their family secrets.
The presiding magistrate, Makelo Ncube, granted Wonai a protection order, barring Robert from physically and emotionally abusing her. The case has attracted attention in the community, with many people expressing their concern about the prevalence of domestic violence in mɑrriages.
