Wife of notorious robber in court for money laundering
The wife of an accused armed robber appeared before a Harare court yesterday on money laundering charges. Joyline Musamba is alleged to have handled proceeds from a heist allegedly committed by her husband Roy Pedzai Jambaya.
According to reports, Jambaya and accomplices allegedly robbed a business in Harare on August 21st, making off with $128,932 USD. Prosecutors say Jambaya received US$28,500 as his share and gave the funds to Musamba for safekeeping.
Musamba, 33, is then accused of using the money to purchase a home in Mutare, despite knowing the cash originated from criminal activity. She was represented in court by defence lawyer Kudakwashe Munyoro.
However, investigating officer Veronica Jangano opposed bail for Musamba, arguing the seriousness of the alleged crime could carry a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. Magistrate Dennis Mangosi ultimately remanded the defendant to November 1st on a $200 bail amount.
Jambaya is said to already be in remand custody related to the robbery case. Prosecutor Zebediah Bofu is handling the matter for the state.
If convicted, the money laundering charge has potential for a hefty penalty.
