A 31-year-old man was brutally beaten to death by four villagers who accused him of stabbing their brother in a revenge attack.
Mkhululi Dube was attacked while drinking alone at Ntabamhlophe Business Centre in Lower Gweru on Tuesday.
The four assailants – Thulani Ncube, Vumani Ndebele, Elias Sizweni and Victor Ncube – approached Dube “avenging for their brother” who they claimed Dube had stabbed with a knife in May.
The vicious gang assaulted Dube with a stone, knobkerrie club and stabbed him with knives, according to police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
“Dube died on the spot and the suspects left the scene,” said Insp. Mahoko.
Thulani Ncube has been arrested while the other three suspects are still at large. Police have appealed to the public for any information to help apprehend the fugitives.
The brutal killing has sh0cked the local community in Mathethe Village under Chief Malisa, where both the victim and attackers lived. Revenge attacks and mob justice remain a problem in parts of Zimbabwe despite efforts by police.
